A crisp, autumn breeze whipped through the grounds of Hogwarts, sending a message of the approaching winter, and the final farewell of warm, summer weather. Penny leisurely walked through the grass directly outside of the castle, adjusting the strap of a bookbag that swayed at her side. She glanced back and forth toward several students chatting under the shade of the trees, and others sitting in clumps on the grass in the afternoon sun. There were only a few faces she was capable of recognizing on a first name basis, and therefore, Penny settled with collapsing into a cross-legged position on the grass by herself. She began to pull materials from her bag; a book, parchment, a quill, and a bottle of ink. As long as she was alone, she might as well work on what homework she had.
At the moment, Penny was rather relieved. It was a Friday, and she had just finished with her final subject. She had the entire weekend to do her homework, but decided that waiting until Sunday night was not entirely smart. The wavy-haired girl released a sigh and began to flip through her Defense Against the Dark Arts textbook. It was all crap. Ever since Umbridge had become professor of that class, they were learning nothing. What good was it to learn about protective spells if you never used them? Penny missed Professor Lupin dearly. He was, without a doubt, the best teacher she had ever had with that class. It was a shame that he was a werewolf and had to quit his job; apparently half-breeds weren't safe and were considered disgusting or something. It was rather dumb.
What was the homework again? An essay of some sort? Well, it was always an essay nowadays. Penny loved writing, that was for sure, but essays were probably her least favorite thing to write. She liked creating stories with made-up characters and plots. Essays were just instruments of torture inflicted upon students when teachers ran out of ideas of what else to do. An exasperated sigh escaped Penny's lips as she lifted her eyes to gaze over the scenes before her; a few older boys flirting with a girl; a group of girls giggling and playing with each other's hair; a few students reading through textbooks; it was a typical day at Hogwarts. The only thing missing? Penny's friends. Where were they?

Keelin had to be one of the worst people in the world sometimes. Really, she had to be. Not only had she 'accidentally' left a pan of paint above a door way, but she had accidentally forgot to mention that to Cho. And well, she loved lovely in lime green pain. Of course Keelin had booked it after that all the way to the Hufflepuff common room were she slinked into her dorm and changed into more comfortable clothes than her school uniform.
As soon as she was in a bright yellow v-neck and kept her black pleated skirt, she tossed her robe back on and disappeared out the door and onto the grounds. It would no doubt be safer there than sitting in the school. Ah well, it was funny when it happened and Penny would be proud of her, right? Well, she thought so.
Sighing, she spotted the friend she happened to thinking about and smiled as she walked over. Plopping down, she looked at what she was doing and groaned. "That stuff is stupid. I don't like learning about what is there. I want to learn to attack it." She smiled and laid back on the grass with her legs crossed at her ankles. "What is that toad's problem?"

Just as Penny dipped her quill into the bottle of ink, she turned to see a fellow friend from Hufflepuff collapse down beside her. A smile curled at her lips and she let the quill sit within the ink, now facing her friend directly. "Remember how Lupin would actually let us do stuff? Like... the boggart and all? That was fun!" the curly-haired girl replied. She cast a disgusted look at the book she was currently reading and rolled her eyes. "How are we supposed to learn anything with this?" Penny slapped her hand down on the book before slamming it closed and pushing it aside. Now that she had a friend to talk to, there was no need to do her homework. She would work on it later... most likely.
"What're you up to?" she asked and fell onto her back, as well. Her brown eyes glimmered up at the puffy clouds that floated by and she released a sigh of relaxation. It was a rather nice autumn day, and the Hufflepuff wanted to enjoy it while it lasted. She wasn't a huge fan of winter. Of course, the first day it snows every year, she is ecstatic, but after a week of white covering the world, it gets rather bland.

Keelin smiled and looked up at the clouds and nodded her haed. "I do, I do. I miss it terribly. I don't get why its so bad that he is a werewolf. Who really cares? He knew what he was talking about and that's what really matters... right?" She sighed and just shook her head. She never really understood many of the fears of the wizarding world. Mostly because she was too busy doing something else to really think about things that could harm her...
"We aren't supposed to learn. At least, that's what I think. I mean, think about. It makes sense. I overheard people talking in the corridor, the Ministry doesn't want us to be able to defend ourselves." This wasn't right when she heard it. And she even knew that. "Eh. Not much really. Hiding in plain sight mostly." She laughed and looked over at Penny and winked. "Let's just say that Cho is gonna be green with envy... or nausea for a while."

Penny nodded with agreement as Keelin spoke about Lupin. He was, by far, the best Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher she had ever had. It was a shame that just because he was a werewolf, he had to quit. Why did it matter? At least he actually knew what he was talking about! So far, all Defense Against the Dark Arts teachers(aside from Lupin) had turned out to be evil in some way. Well... Lockhart wasn't evil, he was just downright annoying.
The Hufflepuff rolled over onto her stomach to get a better view of her brown-haired friend and her lips formed a grimace. "That is so dumb! Shouldn't their first concern be that we know how to defend ourselves? What would happen if we came across a death eater and we didn't know how to protect ourselves? We'd die." Penny shook her head and muttered curses under her breath. However, she soon felt her skin grow hot and she lowered her voice. "We should probably be more quiet when talking about this, Keelin... Umbridge probably can hear everything every student says with some sort of super power or something." She was half-joking, and half-serious about it. It almost seemed believable that the toad had evil powers of some sort. She was a demon.
As the conversation was switched to a more lightening subject, Penny's brown gaze brightened with interest. "What did you do?" she asked, lips curling into a wide smile upon hearing Keelin's words about Cho. The girl would always feel guilty if she, herself, did something to the Ravenclaw, but as long as it was her friend(and her hands were clean) it brought about grand amusement.

[/i] any death eaters, at least to the ministry. Such a bunch of fucking dunderheads, they are. I swear they need to get their heads out of their arse."[/b] She shook her head and sighed deeply. This was such a load of crap. It wasn't fair what the Ministry was doing, but what could they do about it? They were just kids, right? Keelin giggled and looked at Penny. "Let the toad hear. I don't really care. Besides, I'd like to see her waddle-run all the way out here. We could escape off into the forest before she got here, anyways." She smiled and laughed and shook her head. At the mention of what she did, Keelin's giggles burst out into pure laughter. "Well, remember that paint I asked my brother to send me? It got here this morning and I sorta accidentally left it on top of a door. And Cho sort of walked underneath it." She laughed and rolled over to see her friend's expression.[/ul]

Penny let out a small laugh as Keelin spoke about the ministry and she sat upright again, her knees tucked to her chest. The girl began to absentmindedly fiddle with the hem of her shirt, pulling at it to free the wrinkles folded from the bend of her belly. At her friend's next words, she literally burst out laughing and fell over onto her back, again. Just imagining Umbridge attempting to run after them amused her. She could see it now; the infuriated look on her chubby face and her legs waddling beneath her fluffy, pink coat. It was such a hilarious thought. "Yeah, I'd like to see her try to catch us. A turtle can probably walk faster than she can run," she chirped.
Once the girl at wiped tears from her eyes, she focused completely on Keelin, again. Penny nodded slowly as her friend mentioned the paint she had asked for, and as Keelin's final words flowed from her mouth, her lips curled into a wide smile. She slapped a hand over her mouth to hide it, but was unable to deny her enjoyment as muffled laughs escaped her throat. "Oh my god, Keelin! I can't believe you did that! I really wish I could've been there to see it!" the Hufflepuff laughed and grabbed her stomach as she sat up, again. "Darn you! Now I've gotta pee!" Penny playfully slapped Keelin across the shoulder wiped more tears from her cheeks from her hard laughter.
